Brief description
According to Law 288/55 and its subsequent changes and additions, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) offers grants in favor of foreign nationals not living in Italy and Italian nationals living abroad (IRE) for the academic year 2024–2025 to encourage international cultural, academic, and technological innovation cooperation, promote Italian cultural and linguistic heritage, and to support Italy’s economic system in the world.
Government and officially accredited Italian University Educational institutions provide scholarships to study, and learn, as well as research projects.
Italian Colleges and Universities Institutions are the collaborating institution(s).
Level/Field(s) of Study: Courses of the University are Arts and Sciences, Musical Arts, and Dance (AFAM), PhD program, Research under Educational Supervision (Progetti in Co-tutela), Eligible Master’s Degree (Laurea Magistrale 2° ciclo), and Italian Cultural and Linguistic Courses

Scholarship Benefits and duration of study
Tuition costs: recipients may be excluded from paying enrollment and tuition costs, depending on the policies of each university. However, this exemption does not apply to courses in Italian language and culture, where enrollment fees are necessary.
Health and Medical Insurance: MAECI has contracted health and medical/accident insurance for applicants, which will cover their expenses up to the amount included in the award.
However, the insurance will not cover incidents caused by previous physical or medical conditions.
Financial Grant: A monthly allowance of 900 euros will be given to applicants every three months, and their Italian bank account will receive this payment.
Depending on the kind of course, the scholarship can last for six or nine months. Renewals are only given to students who show improvement in their academic performance.

Academic qualifications
- Only international students who do not currently reside in Italy and Italian citizens living abroad (IRE) who possess the necessary academic credentials to enroll in an Italian university or institute may submit applications.

Visa Requirements
- Non-EU nationals must apply for a student visa at the appropriate Italian embassy in their country of origin.

• A current passport-sized photo.
• A passport that is still valid three months following the visa.
• Enroll up for or studying for a course at a university.
• Documents showing you have accommodation in Italy.
• Proof of income showing that you qualify for financial assistance (at least € 467,65 a month for the academic year, or € 6.079,45 annually);.
• Adequate insurance coverage for hospital stays and medical care.
• Evidence that funds required to return are available
• Providing proof of sufficient ability to learn Italian language
• If the student is under the age of 18, the parent or legal guardian, or all of the parental authorities in their absence, must sign the approval document before being sent abroad.
Age limits
- Except for renewals, candidates for Master’s degrees, Higher Education in Arts, Music, and Dance (AFAM) programs, and Italian language and culture courses must not be older than 28 years and 364 days before the deadline.
- Except for renewals, candidates for PhD programs must not be older than thirty-one years and three months before the deadline.
- By the deadline, candidates for research projects directed by lecturers must not be older than 40 years old or more than 364 days.
Language skills and proficiency
A certificate of competency in the Italian language is required of applicants before they may be admitted to a course taught in the language.
According to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), a minimum degree of B2 is needed.
Candidates who took courses offered in Italian at the university may turn in a language certification from a departmental language instructor.
Applicants must present a language certificate attesting to their English language proficiency to be admitted to an English-taught course. According to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), a minimum level of B2 is needed.
Candidates from nations where English is an official language who are applying for courses that will be conducted fully in English may be admitted with a self-certification. Proof of proficiency in Italian is not needed.

The successful completion of a PhD program or research project under academic supervision does not need evidence of language proficiency.
2024/2025 Italian Government Scholarships Application Instructions
Students must submit their enrolment application directly to the chosen higher education institution, according to the procedures, deadlines, and documentation provided by each institution and by the present Procedures, and are assessed on an equal footing with Italian degree holders.
Applications must be submitted by 2 pm (Central European Time), 9 June 2024.
